6. The Sermon's Intent

Once you understand the text’s meaning, you next need to figure out what your sermon is about. Only then can you show your audience what the Bible’s timeless truth is and what it means for their lives.

Application Questions for Episode 6: The Sermon's Intent

  1. Again, read 1 Peter 1:3–17
  2. Write a thesis statement for the text.  
  3. Write a homiletical statement for the text.
  4. In one paragraph, explain why you’ve chosen the thesis statement you have. Do the same for the homiletical statement.  
  5. In another paragraph, explain any parts of this passage that are going to be challenging to explain.
