4. Structuring the Sermon

You may understand every detail of the text and say true and helpful things about the Christian life, but if your sermon has no structure, your audience will struggle to understand the meaning of God’s perfect Word. This episode shows you the key tenets of sermon structure.

Application Questions for Episode 4: Structuring the Sermon

  1. Again, read 1 Peter 1:3–17.
  2. Now that you’ve analyzed this text, write out the meaning of the passage in one sentence.
  3. Give a one paragraph overview of the text. Identify its main idea. Identify any key theological ideas or references to other passages.
  4. Write out how this text fits into the flow of redemptive history.
  5. Write out three key truths that are found in this passage and how they relate to the theme of the book.
